Building Alternatives specializes in structural and building envelope engineering using natural building materials. We are experienced in straw bale, hemp-lime, cob, rammed earth, earth bag, earth ship, timber frame, post frame, post & beam, log, and conventional light wood frame construction. We have foundation expertise as well; rubble trench, earth bag, rammed earth, PWF and conventional/ICF concrete foundation systems. We are registered professional engineers licensed to practice in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories & Nunavut.
We are a small group, all working from home and do not have extensive resources to dedicate to drafting or shop drawing development. We are happy to work with builders, designers and architects to produce plan sets or alternative solutions proposals for permit applications, costing and building purposes. We also provide inspection and construction review services when and where possible.
